Professional Development

On February 12, 2025, the Biddeford Regional Center of Technology (BRCOT) welcomed Biddeford High School (BHS) teachers for an engaging professional development session. From 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., BHS staff had the opportunity to experience three of BRCOT’s dynamic programs, while being taught by students and participating in hands-on activities that showcased the skills and career pathways available to students.

Teachers stepped into the shoes of their students—gearing up for welding, learning how to take blood pressure readings, and exploring other technical skills that are part of BRCOT’s robust curriculum. The immersive experience helped educators gain a deeper appreciation for the trades and the valuable opportunities available to their students.

“It’s essential that our teachers understand the hands-on learning and career-focused education we offer here at BRCOT,” said Paulette Bonneau, Director of the Biddeford Regional Center of Technology. “By experiencing these programs firsthand, they can better support students in discovering career paths that align with their interests and strengths. The trades are a vital part of our workforce, and events like this help bridge the gap between traditional academics and technical education.”

This collaboration between BHS and BRCOT highlights the importance of career and technical education in preparing students for success beyond high school, whether they choose to enter the workforce directly, pursue further training, or continue their education.
