To work with all students
To conduct classroom lessons on various topics
To provide individual and small group counseling
To be a liaison between outside agencies and parents/staff
To provide consultation, resources, and support for parents, staff, and teachers
To sponsor school wide programs
To conduct workshops for teachers and parents
To drive all levels of interventions from school data
Crisis management
Assist with scheduling
A child may see the counselors for:
Improving self-concept
Managing conflicts with friends
Self-expression
Voicing and solving family concerns
Academic problems or underachievement
Fears and anxiety
Physical concerns
Learning difficulties

To share good news! :)
Students will see the counselor during classroom lessons, school functions, and in the hallways. In addition, students can see the counselor when they are referred by:
Themselves
Teachers
Parents
Administrators
Special services
Friends
Qualifications of a School Guidance Counselor
School counselors are required to have (at minimum) a Master’s degree in school counseling from an accredited university and be appropriately certified through the Maine Department of Education. School counselors also adhere to the educational and ethical standards provided by the Biddeford School Department, the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), and the American Counseling Association (ACA). BIS aims to enable each and every student to achieve success.
