Biddeford High School (BHS) Senior Benjamin Descoteaux has been selected as the recipient of the 2025 Principal’s Award. The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association (MPA), is given annually to a senior from each high school in recognition of their academic achievement and citizenship.
As Descoteaux’s Teacher and Coach Jon Jacques states, “Ben is an unforgettable young man. He has a unique combination of work ethic, curiosity and intellect that is both impressive and refreshing. Aside from these exemplary character traits, Ben is also selfless. He cares deeply about his community and others. You can be sure that Ben will put his classmates, teammates, teachers, and fellow citizens before himself. You will not find a more worthy recipient of the MPA award than Ben Descoteaux.”
Descoteaux has achieved academic success with a 4.27 GPA and plans to continue his post-secondary education studying Business at Clemson University. Principal Martha Jacques states, “While Benjamin’s resume is most impressive, some of the things that stand out most are his warm smile, kind heart, and his willingness to go above and beyond for anyone in need. He brings positive energy, a contemplative outlook, and is not quick to make a judgment or decision, but rather takes his time, gathers information, and processes it in a way that I have not seen another high school student do. He is able to handle complex issues with confidence and competence and advocate for the best interests of himself and others, including those whose voices are not typically heard.”
Teacher and Advisor Brian Curit adds, "Ben epitomizes everything that is great about being the consummate student, teammate, and citizen of Biddeford High School. Everyone would echo the same sentiments about Ben Descoteaux. Biddeford High School couldn't be represented any better.”
The Principal's Award is presented in more than 100 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association that represents Maine's school administrators. For more information about the award, visit https://mpaprof.org/mpa-principals-award-2.
